Do Not be Afraid to Leave a 1 Star Review

 Free ? Discounts?

We all know about "Trip Advisor*" and how guests rank hotels and the service they received from staff, the amenities they received, and the cleanliness of the hotel/resort, but did you know "Trip Advisor*" is your best friend and they actually benefit you when you stay at a resort/hotel. The review system works and hotels/resorts appreciate the feedback they receive from guests from all over the world and for the most part hotels/resorts try to make it right when there is a bad review. Did you know you can use the review system of "Trip Advisor" to get free or reduced amenities when you are currently staying at the hotel/resort and you do not have to wait to leave? Let me explain.

Failed Amenities

When you hop over to the hotel/resort and you arrive tired, but the amenities you asked for are not there and the hotel/resort failed to complete your desired request at check-in, which happens more often then you think. Doesn't that just put a sour taste in your mouth already? Well, having the power of "Trip Advisor" at your disposal you can ask to speak to the front desk manager usually referred to as the MOD (Manager on Duty) and let them know that you were not happy with them not fulfilling your request and that you are going to give them a "1 Star Review" for the inconvenience they caused you. This does several things; One, it puts the staff on alert that you are aware of the review system and; two, they know you are an educated and informed traveler. The review system is not only good for failed amenities it can be used for every inconvenience the hotel/resort caused you from late luggage arrival, no hot water, A/C not working, unauthorized entries into your room by housekeepers, and the service was not as described on the website or brochure and up to police/fire/EMS calls on property.

Do Not be Shy

Once you make the hotel/resort aware that you are going to give them a 1 star review they will give you several amenities as compensation, but it varies from hotel to hotel. They can provide you with a waiver of parking fee, waiver of resort fees, free drinks, and a free upgrade (if available). Do not be afraid to use the "Trip Advisor" review system as your best friend. It is there for a reason, so you use it.
