Housekeeping Problems

 Is My Stuff Safe?

When you think about traveling and booking that vacation or staycation are you concerned about who is going into your room to clean? Well, you should be. Here's why. Many hotels employ there own staff to clean rooms and the public areas and for the most part they are well vetted and are honest, but we are not going to concern ourselves with the hotels that have in-house staff that work hard to make your vacation a great experience. We will tell you about the hotels and resorts that hire third party cleaning services with no vetting and no background checks, which could potentially put you the guest at risk.

      Reduced Control

The issues with outsourcing housekeeping at a hotel are varied and one that not only puts you the guest at risk, but also your personal safety. When outsourcing the housekeeping functions of the hotel the management has no control over there assets and who is controlling there assets. You think if they have no control of there assets what makes you think they will have control over yours? So just to be safe you should always secure your door with the door lock, but also use extra protection which will give you peace of mind.

Communication Issues

Ever hop over to a resort or hotel and call to get housekeeping services and you wait and wait and wait until after about 45 mins to an hour the housekeeper finally arrives with your item? Well the hotel management has a communication issue with the outsourced housekeeping also. The call goes to the guest services operator, which may only be one at the most two, taking guest calls. From there the call is supposed to be inputted into the hotel services database i.e HOTSOS. The guest services operator either forgets or when the call for housekeeping goes into the HOTSOS the outsourced housekeeper has a limited English language proficiency and ignores the call for guest service or completely deletes the call from the HOTSOS database.

You're Not The Only Customer

You like being spoiled at the hotel, after all it is your vacation. Well, guess what? you are not the only customer to the outsourced housekeeping staff. The outsourced housekeeping staff has other hotels as customers and some of the issues that you may have will go ignored as a result of this. No hotels are perfect, but all your vacations must be perfect. This is what I use as a reference to check the standards of my room whenever I stay at a hotel or resort. It should help you when it comes to cleanliness.

Final Thoughts

It is completely up to the traveler if they choose to stay at a hotel that outsources housekeeping. It is also wise to ask upon making a reservation if the housekeeping staff are in-house or if they are outsourced. When you get there and you find out the housekeeping staff is outsourced and they lied to you you can request compensation for the lack of information. We will be discussing compensation in our next blog post and how you can save money on your stay.
